Microsoft Extends Support To Xbox 360 Until 2016

Xbox 360 is the second gaming console coming from the Xbox family and it came after the release of the original Xbox gaming console. Xbox One is the latest gaming console released by Microsoft after Xbox 360. But, the users of Xbox 360 thought that Microsoft would stop giving support to Xbox 360 once the Xbox One is released. However, this is not the case as they are planning to give support to the Xbox 360 gaming consoles until 2016.

Yusuf Mehdi, the Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer for Xbox gaming console said at the Citi Global Technology Conference that they are planning to include more games in the Xbox console and to extend the Microsoft support for some more years. He said, “We're going to continue to invest in Xbox 360, and the two devices can work in concert.” He added by saying, “So it's not like the day we ship Xbox One your 360 won't work. We'll continue to support it.”

The Xbox 360 gaming console hit the market in the year 2005 and introduction of support for 3 more years will take the total life cycle of the product to 11 years, which is a milestone that is achieved only by the PlayStation 2 gaming console. The PS2 gaming console sold more than 155 million of units in its 13-year life cycle.

The difference in the popularity of the Xbox 360 gaming console can be understood from these data. When Xbox gaming console was introduced, it sold almost 24 million units until 2010. When Xbox 360 was introduced, its numbers rose to more than78 million units in the year 2013 and is expected to reach the 100 million mark within a couple of years.

The reason behind such a huge popularity for Xbox 360 gaming platform is the fact that the games that are developed for other consoles like Play Station and those developed years before can be played in this console. This will help you to play the games like Metal Gear Solid V, Assassin's Creed 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 in both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The extended support for Xbox 360 will definitely enhance the revenue of Microsoft and increase the satisfaction of already existing Xbox 360 users.
