The new Windows 8 and its Metro UI did not impress many of the traditional Windows users. The Metro user interface was designed mainly for the touch-screen devices. This somewhat alienated Microsoft’s usually strong user base – the desktop and laptop users. The Metro UI was aimed mostly at the tablet and smartphone users. However, for them, the new Microsoft OS came very late into the picture. Apple and Google had already started dominating the market by the time they released Windows 8. About the Windows 8.1 update The Windows 8.1 OS is Microsoft’s attempt to rescue their new OS. The many complaints from the traditional Windows users about the absence of the Windows Start Menu were taken in to consideration.
