Most of the Outlook users encounter problems with mail notifications even though Outlook offers a lot of features and tools for its clients. This problem mainly occurs when IMAP mail accounts are configured and as a result, the Outlook 2010 application synchronizes much data. However, these mail notification alert issues can be solved very easily by following the given set of instructions about Microsoft Outlook.

- Open the Microsoft Outlook 2010 application in your computer to start the process. Once the Outlook window is open in your screen, navigate to the tab called Home, then from the Rules drop down button, you need to click the option labeled Manage Rules & Alerts.
- Now the Rules & Alerts window will be opened in your screen. To apply rules for specific action, you need to click the option called New Rule.
- Next, you need to start creating a blank file from the Rules wizard. After that, click the option Apply Rule On Messages I Receive followed by clicking the button called Next.
- You need to select an account in this step. It can be done only through specified account options. Therefore, click the option called Specified Account under Step 2.
- From the available options, you need to choose an account. After choosing the account, click the button called OK.
- In the bottom pane, you will be able to see the selected account name. After that, click the button called Next.
- Now, you can go through the list of actions by scrolling down. Next, enable the option called Display a Desktop Alert and Play a sound.
- You can select different audio files to be played regarding the desktop notification under the Step 2. After selecting, you can end the wizard by clicking the button called Finish.
- Now, you will be navigated to the Rules and Alerts dialog box and you need to highlight the rule that is newly added. Next, click the OK button.
- Now, Outlook will start sending the mail alert notification whenever you receive email through IMAP account.
- The email body text will not be displayed with the notification. The only thing that will be displayed is Sender Name and Subject. Check out MailAlert add-in for Outlook 2010 for more customized email notifications.
