How To Change Port Number In Microsoft Outlook

When you use Microsoft Outlook to manage your different email accounts, it communicates with the email service provider’s incoming and outgoing servers regularly. In order to access these servers, Microsoft Outlook makes use of specific ports which are defined within your Outlook account.
Sometimes, you might have problems with sending or receiving emails in your Outlook application. There can be several reasons behind your email sending and receiving problem. Out of the many reasons, one reason can be the incorrect port settings. If it is a problem with the port settings, luckily Microsoft Outlook has an effective solution for this. You can modify the settings of your Outlook account so that the correct ports are being used. If your computer system is already using the port, which Microsoft Outlook uses by default, you will have to change the port that Outlook is using in order for the program to work properly.
The following Outlook settings guidelines will help you change the port number successfully.

  • Launch Microsoft Outlook on your computer.
  • Go to the File menu located at the top of the Outlook window.
  • From the File menu, click on the option Accounts and then select the option Account Settings.
  • From the list of email accounts that you see in the center of the window, click the email account that you wish to change.  Now select the option Change. This will open the Change Account window.
  • Locate the More Settings button located at the bottom-right corner of the Change Account window and click on it. This will open the Internet E-mail Settings window.
  • Click on the Advanced tab at the top of the Internet E-mail Settings window.
  • Here you will find the option to edit or change the port number. Click inside the field containing the port number that you want to change.
  • Press the Backspace key on your keyboard to delete the existing port number, and then type in the new port number.
  • Click the OK button to close the window.
  • Proceed by clicking the Next button, and finally click the Finish button to complete the process.
This is how you change the Outlook settings port number in your Outlook application. If this does not fix the problem with your Outlook email, contact the Outlook Support team or Microsoft Support Center, to get advanced help to fix the issue.
